Manna — Privacy Policy

Shepherdboard (“we,” “our,” or “us”) built the Manna app as a free and open service. Your privacy matters to us, and we collect as little data as possible.

Information We Collect

We do not collect personal information.

Manna is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or enter any personal information to use the free KJV Bible memorization features.

Data stored locally on your device

The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

Verse progress: Which verses you've added, your current mastery step, SM-2 scheduling data (easiness factor, interval, review dates)
Streaks and achievements: Daily streak count, earned achievement badges
Notification preferences: Reminder times, notification types, digest settings
App preferences: Theme, display settings

This data is stored using your device's built-in storage (SwiftData on iOS, Room on Android) and is not accessible to us.

Speech recognition

When you use the voice recall feature, your speech is processed by your device's built-in speech recognition service:

iOS: Apple's Speech framework (on-device processing)
Android: Android SpeechRecognizer

Audio is processed in real time and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to us. Apple or Google may process speech data according to their own privacy policies:

Premium subscriptions

If you purchase a Manna Premium subscription, payment is processed by:

iOS: Apple App Store (StoreKit 2)
Android: Google Play Store (Google Play Billing)

We do not receive your payment card information, billing address, or full Apple/Google account details. Apple and Google provide us only with a transaction identifier and confirmation of your subscription status.

Manna does not:

Collect, store, or transmit personal identification information
Create user accounts or profiles
Track your location
Use third-party analytics (Google Analytics, Firebase, Amplitude, etc.)
Use third-party crash reporting (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
Serve advertisements or use ad networks
Share any data with third parties
Use cookies or tracking pixels
Build marketing profiles or sell user data

Data Security

All your data stays on your device. We use platform-provided storage (SwiftData, Room) which inherits the security protections of your device's operating system. We recommend using a device passcode/biometric lock for maximum security.

Children's Privacy

Manna is a Bible memorization app suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, because we do not collect personal information from anyone. There are no chat features, social features, or user-generated content in the app.

Data Retention & Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

To delete your data: Simply delete the Manna app from your device. This permanently removes all stored progress, streaks, and settings.
Premium subscriptions: Canceling a subscription does not delete local data. Uninstalling the app does not automatically cancel subscriptions — manage subscriptions through your Apple/Google account settings.

Future Features

If we add features that involve data collection in the future (such as cloud sync or challenge-a-friend), we will:

Update this privacy policy before launching the feature
Clearly disclose what data is collected and how it's used
Make such features optional and require explicit opt-in
Never require data collection for core Bible memorization features

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will:

Update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page
Notify you within the app when material changes are made
Never weaken your privacy protections without clear disclosure
